Wat is bijengif?
Bijengif is een complex mengsel van eiwitten en aminozuren, enzymen, suikers en lipiden. Melittine, een polypeptide, is een belangrijk bestanddeel van gif en bij mensen stimuleert het de bijnierschors (een deel van de bijnier) om cortisol af te geven, een hormoon dat wordt geassocieerd met het verminderen van ontstekingen en genezingsreacties. Bijengif wordt veel gebruikt als cosmetisch ingrediënt (actueel middel) voor het bevorderen van huidregeneratie of een behandeling van bepaalde epidermale aandoeningen. Topische toepassing van bijengif kan goed worden verdragen door de menselijke huid omdat het in wetenschappelijke studies geen potentieel voor huidirritatie heeft vertoond. Langdurige behandeling met bijengif bevattende cosmetica is veilig omdat het irritatiepotentieel van bijengif verwaarloosbaar is.
